"Presidents Report
The 1993 Winter season has been one of mixed fortunes for the club. Our Under 13 side,
ably coached by Paul Murray and assisted by Alan Wisby performed extremely well, enjoying
a good deal of success. They are to be congratulated for an outstanding season. The Under
17 side shows enormous potential and, apart from a few setbacks, performed creditably
throughout the year. Quite a few players reveal potential to compete at senior level in
the coming years. The club extends its thanks to Tim Wilkie for coaching them this year.
The thirds were promoted from Division 3 to Division 2 this year and performed well at the
higher standard, thanks to Brett Stoddart's leadership. The State League Reserves and
Seniors finished third and second in their respective competitions. Les Ware, Bob Rybak
and Dale Itchins worked hard to develop fit, competitive sides which, although dogged by
injuries, managed to make both the semi-finals of the competition. With an ounce of luck
they might both have contested the grand finals. The reserves lost their semi-final 1-0,
conceding an own goal and the seniors lost on penalties after spectacularly coming back
from 3-1 down to force a draw with arch rival Hobart Juventus. Both sides had
opportunities to win the game, but were frustrated by near misses and some luck going the
oppositions' way.
The club has been wonderfully supported financially by the Polish Credit Union and the
Polish Club. Their generosity and commitment this year has been outstanding. We are
seeking to attract a major sponsor this year and, to this end, I publicly thank Mr Andrew
Soszynski for his support. I hope to have a positive announcement to make in the near
future. Thanks also to Stefan Sikora for donating a new strip to the thirds. It is a
beauty - I believe the seniors have their eyes on it!! Thanks too, to our supporters, not
only for their attendance at games, but also their preparedness to put their hands in
their pockets to help us financially. Their continuing interest and support provides us
with a rich sense of tradition and an optimistic future.
The first year of my presidency has been an important learning experience. I thank Stan
Roberts for his solidarity and wise council, David Stoddart Jnr for his efficiency and
energy, Andrew Leszczynski for his financial acumen and good humor. The club is fortunate
to have people of the caliber of Joy Stoddart, Brett Stoddart, Bruno Gentile, Maria
Murray, Steve Murray, Ken Street, Scott Young and Craig Pitt on the the committee. We have
also been pleased to secure the services of Greg Fahey recently. Their work, above and
beyond the call of duty, is vital to the success of the club. We face new challenges with
the advent of the summer roster, effectively making it a year round operation.
To the players we offer our thanks. It is for you the committee works; it is you the
supporters come to see. Let's continue to work together for the success of the club in
particular and the betterment of soccer in general. We hope you are as proud of the club
as we are of you.
In this edition of the Talon you will notice a range of forthcoming social and
fundraising events. Please ensure that you attend them to foster a positive club spirit
and assist in the development of sufficient resources to continue to put competitive,
successful teams on the park. Please attend the A.G.M. and assert your commitment to and
support for the club through your presence and membership subscription.
Yours in Sport
Frank Bansel.
Under 13 Team
The U/13 team started the season off in great fashion, winning the K.O. Cup, and this
was largely due to some early training by Paul Murray.
During our Roster Games Alan Wisby assisted Paul at our training sessions and this
certainly had a marked effect on our players . Out of 16 games played we won 15 and lost
only once and that was to the eventual premiers Croatia.
Our boys scored 48 goals and conceded 12 against and with four new players gained
during 1993, it was a tremendous season for Paul and Allan. Congratulations go also to
Garth Duncan for gaining a place in the under 13 State Side. Thanks go to Purity Claremont
for supplying the orange juice for the team.
To all players, parents and coaches, see you all in 1994.
Thankyou
Ken Street
Manager
State League Reserves
The close of the shortened winter roster for the state league reserves finds us
reflecting on what has been a good season, perhaps one of the best for a number of
seasons, firstly reaching the finals of the summer cup competition and finishing in the
top four of the State League Reserves competition. While the season started slowly with a
loss first up to Croatia. The team developed and applied a no nonsense attitude toward
training and their games, to string together a number of draws which on most occasions we
were unlucky not to have come away with the points. The game tally for the season season
being 2 games lost, 4 games won and 8 games drawn.
To finish in the final four was a great achievement for the lads, and with that ounce
of luck we could have been playing in the final, instead of bowing out to Croatia in the
semi-final. Les is to be congratulated for his time and effort he has applied to the team
this season, his approach towards training has really shown what can be achieved when
everyone is giving their utmost because of the enjoyment at training, and having the
desire to win on the day.
There were many fine efforts by players during the season and at times those who were a
bit down soon pulled themselves back into shape and showed what team spirit is all about.
We hope that this attitude can be carried over to the innovative summer competition
starting shortly.
The number of players progressing and playing some games at senior level shows the
player depth within the club. The same can be said of those few under 17 players who were
given the opportunity to play in the reserves, this depth of good players must auger well
for the coming season for the club.
Once again well done and thanks lads for all the achievements this season and lets kick
off on a positive note come the summer competition.
In closing thanks should be passed onto Ken Street for his help as physio during the
season, and to Maria Murray for her help in keeping the team strip clean and tidy.
Steve Murray.
I would also like to thank the committee for the support shown throughout this season,
I would also like to thank those responsible for the Talon. But mostly the services of my
Manager Steve Murray who with his support and of Maria and Ken made my position much
easier.
Thanks to everyone - Les Ware
Under 17 Team
With a season of ups and downs and some weeks struggling to get a team together on the
park, the Under 17 team put the goods together at the end of the season. We defeated all
the top teams finishing up fourth on the ladder but we looked like a premiership winning
side, playing talented soccer. It was also encouraging to our inexperienced players to
have some of the younger reserve players drop back, their help was very much appreciated.
I'd like to thank all the parents that gave their support during the year, but a
special thanks must go to the other coaches for their much needed help at training and at
matches. All in all it has been a learning season for me and the players this year and the
club can look forward to some very fine talent in the future.
Tim Wilkie
Division 2 Team
Our soccer season has finished for the year and presentation night has quickly arrived.
This season is our first in Division 2, due to being upgraded from Premiers of Division 3
last season. Out of ten teams we were pleased to end in fourth place. The competition was
of a higher standard than previous years.
I wish to thank my regular team members especially for their loyalty and support
throughout the season, being my first year as coach. I would also like to mention a note
of thanks towards the Under 17 and Reserve players who filled in when urgently needed.
Presentation night will see four trophies given out to our Division 2 side. The awards
being best and fairest, most consistent, most improved and the Golden Boot Award. I wish
to thank Stefan Sikora and Eugene Rosinski for donating those first three named trophies.
Gilbert Steenhuis began the Golden Boot Award last year. Mick Case won it by scoring 42
goals in last seasons league. This years winner Gilbert Steenhuis scored 9 goals. Mick
Case was second with seven goals and Les Ware was third with 4 goals in total. Two of our
awards were decided by our regular players while as coach I chose the most improved award.
The team look forward to seeing more supporters at their games as we will be the only
senior team playing in the Winter Roster. Thanks to our regular supporters, see you next
season.
Brett Stoddart.

| The
club has two very important functions coming up, the Quiz Night and the Back to Eagle Day. The Quiz Night will be held at the Polish
Club on Saturday October 9 at 7:30PM. The cost will be $5 per person and gives you a
chance at the multiple prizes that are given away on these nights. The quiz nights have
been very successful and well patronised in the past, but their main attraction is the
good time that is had by all.
Sunday 24 October is the date of
the Back to Eagle BBQ to be held at Hut No.8 at Tolosa Street Reserve. This will also be
the venue of the Under 13 presentations, so your attendance will be greatly appreciated by
them. The day will be a family day with Volleyball and Sports with bar facilities
provided. Come along and enjoy the day as a club prior to the commencement of the State
Summer League.
Expressions of interest are
required from any source interested in competing in the Womens League next season. The
club has been without a womens team for a number of years and the club is keen to
resurrect a side.
The 1993 winter season has been a
successful one for the club, even though the silverware has not come in this year. The
five teams all featured in the top four of their respective leagues. This would not be
possible without the much needed support of our major sponsors. The Polish Credit Union
really came to the party this year and the club sincerely thank them. Also to the Polish
Club and the Polish Association we extend our thanks. Thanks also to the coaches,
managers, parents and supporters for their assorted efforts.
The summer competition will see
Les Ware continue to direct the Reserves and Dale Itchins take over the Seniors with the
assistance of Tony Calvert as Manager. Congratulations to Steven Bukowiecki in making the
Under 15 State side, and to Franko Previdi and Dale Itchins appointed Coach and Manager
respectively of the Under 15 State Side. |
