DALIAN BEILIANG GRAIN TERMINAL
PHASE 1 DEVELOPMENT
Incorporating Five CircPH3low Fumigation Recirculation Systems
Beiliang's Grain Terminal outside the northern city of Dalian is now the largest grain import/export terminal in the world, incorporating some 1.4 million tonnes of grain storage.
In 1998 GTS was contracted to install five CircPH3low fumigation systems for the Phase 1 development of the project, servicing 31 bins of up to 3000 tonne capacity each.
The work involved the installation of approximately 1.5 km of ductwork above and below the silos, 31 diffusers at the base of the silos, five fumigant dispensers and one on-site PH3 + CO2 mixing system.
The five dispensers incorporated CircPH3low automatically controllers that maintain a present concentration of fumigant being delivered to the silos. The dispensers also include an option for delivery of very high concentrations of fumigant (up to 1000 ppm) for rapid fumigation of grain.
The fumigation system includes an on-site fumigant mixing system that mixes CO2 from a cryogenic bulk container with gaseous phosphine (from portable cylinders) in a 98%-2% mix ratio. Due to the highly toxic and explosive characteristics of phosphine, the operation of the mixing system is fully automated using a local PLC to control the flow of gases through it.
