PROFILE: Doug Spowart

Doug Spowart has an extensive range of experience in the field of photography in Australia. From modest beginnings in the late 1960's he began his involvement with photography in the camera club movement.

After nine years employment with Kodak working in many different capacities he formed a partnership with his mother Ruby and operated the photographic art gallery Imagery Gallery in Brisbane from 1980~1995.

Whilst he is currently employed by the Southern Queensland Institute of TAFE in Toowoomba in Queensland Australia he has lectured at tertiary institution level in photography since 1977.

Doug Spowart is a staunch supporter of the photography industry first joining the Australian Institute of Professional Photography in 1972; he is also a foundation member of the Australian Society of Advertising Commercial Magazine Photographers.

Spowart is a Fellow of the AIPP, has achieved Master of Photography membership status four times over and is five times recipient of the AIPP Queensland Professional Photographer of the Year Award.

His work has appeared in three ACMP "Collections" and is represented in state and regional galleries Australia wide as well as specialised international collections.
