Dreams: |

Over the past week, I have had the strangest recurring dream. I walk into a doctor's surgery where a young doctor is holding a pregnancy test with the result being positive. I look at the doctor in horror and scream, no! What is my subconscious telling me? Do I dislike children? Is there an underlying fear of becoming pregnant before I get married? Well, I decided to look up the meaning of "Pregnancy" in a dream interpretation book to discover what this dream was all about, and I can tell you I was less than pleased with my finding. Pregnancy: "For a woman to dream that she is pregnant, denotes that she will be unhappy with her husband, and her children will be unattractive" Mum and I thought that last line was hilarious, Blake won't think it's very funny though. I think I'll just ignore this interpretation, and hope it wasn't a prophetic dream. Dreams are so interesting, good or bad they sift through our fears, fantasies, hopes, and delve into our subconscious emotions. It has been proven with EEG Machines (Electo- encephalographs) that everybody dreams, however some people do not recall their dreams at all. Through the night most people have three or four periods of deep sleep, interspersed with periods of light sleep. It is earlier in the night that we go into our deepest sleep, where we will dream of the bizarre, and usually have nightmares. As you progress through the night dreams will become more rational and will be more closely related to our lives. Before we wake our dreams will be so closely related to everyday events that sometimes when we awake it will be difficult to determine whether it was a dream or whether the situation actually occurred. Dreams are usually symbolic, and there is always an underlying message. The meaning is linked with the subconscious of the individual and will not only show you things as they are, but also how you secretly wish them to be. Only the dreamer will be able to interpret their dreams true meaning. Psychiatrists and dream interpreters warn against taking your dreams too seriously. This is great advice, if I were to analyse every dream I have had in great detail, I would have gone mad. (As it is I'm already expecting to have ugly kids one day.) Tina |
