This page details information about Scoring Method:
"The Ultimate Score"
INTRODUCTION
Back in 1996 a person by the name of Ted York, had an idea for a new way of scoring VGAP games.
He was trying to create a scoring system fair for everyone. That considered all variables possible, making the scores something the player could rely on, without a possible doubt of whether a player is 'inflating' their score by building cheap battleships & lots of fighters or not.Jose-Luis Nunez wrote a program to run that idea and called it "The Ultimate Scores" (USCORE).
USCORE isn't a totally new scoring system. What it does is use scores from four other sources:
Tim's Internal VGA Planets Scores, VGA Scores 2.2, PTScore 1.3b and Tons.WHAT ARE THE SCORES LIKE?
USCORE reads information from the following files: SCORE.LOG, VGASCORE.BLT, PTSCORE.LOG and TONS.LOG. (These are normally kept by the Host (but could be sent to the players)).
USCORE reads those files and makes the following addition:
TOTAL = SCORE + VGASCORE + TONS + (PTSCORE/100) This is made for each player and then sorted.
The result is something like this:
******************* Game_Name ******************** 08/28/96 Turn 34 Number of active players in this game is: 10 Lower 50 percent active player scores is: Additional points needed for 1st place to win is: Total Race Score Ptscore VGAscore Score Tons Pls SB CS FR ------------------------------------------------------------------- Holy 36100 12966 9230 5453 8451 132 27 85 43 Elnath 27388 12588 7180 5111 2509 72 29 88 31 Funky 13310 4981 4192 2339 1798 47 10 65 19 Serpent 9269 3110 4323 1636 200 77 6 13 16 Empire 8897 4076 3114 1515 192 23 8 31 15 Fascist 5503 2366 1826 1311 0 23 7 22 21 Lizard 3280 1307 1168 805 0 25 4 7 5 Robotic 2642 1104 885 653 0 18 3 11 3 Earthforce 2401 806 987 608 0 24 3 0 8 Colonial 2002 899 664 439 0 13 2 6 9 Trog 760 0 0 0 760 0 0 0 0 ------------------------------------------------------------------- Uscore v1.03 454 99 329 171As far as I can tell, the orginal USCORE (v1.00) was further developed to version v1.03.
It was distributed as Shareware and when registered gave the following features:
I've attempted to contact the author of the program. but failed to get any response, so I could not obtain a registered version. :-(
- Support of USCORE.CFG file to customize your game scores.
- Possibility to choose any combination of the 4 scoring systems.
- Possibility to multiply each scoring system by a different number, to give more or less importance to each score.
- Victory Conditions support.
As I like the concept of USCORE, I've copied idea and modified it to suit NAVGAP usage.
