17:18 09 March 2005 to 21:40 09 March 2005 GMT
Failure: NAVGAP program locked up

At that time it issuing a command to the FTP server to change directory ready for uploading a html file to the mirror web site. Program had to be terminated and restarted.

21:35 on 30 September 2004 to 00:00 on 02 October 2004 GMT
Failure: Lost contact with SMTP/POP/Web server

NAVGAP blocked from using the server that provides "@navgap.com" mail services and primary FTP web site.
Unfortunately, that server was attacked (a script was use to trashed .html, .htm, & .php files)
It was possible the IP address of the person that did the attack from is my internet connect (the IP address is the one my ADSL modem is using).
I spent over 4 hours trying to see how such a thing could be done and I have no idea.
I have been advised that NAVGAP is in the clear and my system was not used to trash someone else's server.
I just cannot tell you how happy I am to know that I did nothing wrong and I have allowed nothing wrong to happen.
The www.navgap.com web site is an absolute mess and needs to be rebuilt (every web page will need to be upload to that site) and it will take me a while to do that, so for the next day, please use the mirror site.

12:30 on 10 September 2004 to 01:20 on 11 September 2004 GMT
Failure: PC fault?

NAVGAP program was locked up.
Fortunately, the screen was not blank and I could see what last actions the program had done and what it was doing at time of freezing. (It was saying there was one new email to be processed and it was issuing a command to the FTP server to change directory ready for uploading a html file to the primary web site.

Many of you will know that for the last 10 days, I have been trying to find out why (all of a sudden) there is an error and I have added over 50 new lines of code to log actions that take place in the FTP routine. For 8 days the program ran perfectly and created 50Mb of text file log plus just over 10Mb of data to the access database that logs activity in NAVGAP. Yesterday, I decided to remove 5 lines of logging code to reduce the amount of data being recorded.... and last night, just after I went to bed, the program froze!

This is no doubt very annoying to you, the plays and extremely hurtful to me, as my relaibility as a host is dropping everytime I do not provide a reliable service.

Please be patient as I try to uncover the root cause to the reason why NAVGAP VB code is stalling.

12:04 on 02 September 2004 to 21:40 on 02 September 2004 GMT
Failure: PC fault?

NAVGAP computer found not responding and screen blank.
Unable to see why it stopped working, as PC had to be reset.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Failure: Lost contact with SMTP/POP server

NAVGAP unable to contact mail/web server.

NAVGAP email and web server was not responding. The NAVGAP could not get a response from the www.navgap.com web site nor from the navgap@navgap.com mailbox.

That server is not run by NAVGAP and I have no information about what went wrong.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

17:30 on 12 Apr 2003 GMT to 00:40 on 13 Apr 2003 GMT
Failure: Program Runtime error

NAVGAP's operation stopped due to an error when connecting to FTP web site.

NAVGAP is testing connecting to a new web server, so it can use the URL www.navgap.com.

I have been trying to 'trap' the error and have NAVGAP continue operation, but clearly there is still a problem with my program code... the error was not trapped and it stopped exectution. :-(

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

15:13 on 13 Mar 2003 GMT to 08:20 on 14 Mar 2003 21:17 GMT
Failure: connection to 'ISP' lost

NAVGAP disconnected from Internet.

NAVGAP placed NAVGAP on to back up ISP.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

11 Mar 2003 11:55 GMT to 11 Mar 2003 21:17 GMT
Failure: connection to 'ISP' lost

NAVGAP disconnected from InterNet.

Dial in lines to ISP failed (reason not known).

As it happened at 22:55 local time and NAVGAP Operator was sleeping, fault not fixed for 10 hours.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

11 Mar 2003 05:33 GMT to 11 Mar 2003 07:55 GMT
Failure: connection to 'ISP' lost

NAVGAP disconnected from InterNet.

Dial in lines to ISP failed (reason not known).

NAVGAP had to be shutdown and NAVGAP Operator attempted to connect to ISP every half hour.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

01 Jan 2003 00:35 GMT to 21 Jan 2003 08:05 GMT
Failure: Email 'ISP' fault
Some email not being accepted by ISP's new mail server.

NAVGAP mail program is now pointing to the new mail server. Email flow appears to be working.

Some users have said the new mail server is bouncing email back to them saying it is being blocked by a filter.

I have sent an email to the person that looks after the server that holds the navgap.com mailboxes, asking them how we can stop the filter from being operating. (I have also asked him to tell me what filtering is active. From a previous email he told me filtering is applied to all mailboxes of all 5000 users on his server and he cannot turn off the filters for the navgap.com domain)

Until such time as email flow is normal, I will not be setting games to normal hosting (they will continue to be set to only host when all TRN files are submitted).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

31 Dec 2002 07:30 GMT to 01 Jan 2003 00:35 GMT
Failure: navgap.com ISP fault?
No email being found in navgap.com mail boxes.

NAVGAP is polling for email at the navgap@navgap.com mail box, but there is no email being found. NAVGAP is sending test emails to that address (does so every 30 minutes). I have tested that email flow from my ISP is working (I can get sent email from my other non-navgap.com addresses).

At 06:00 GMT on 31 Dec, I got an email from the ISP that hosts navgap.com mail boxes saying they are going to transfer the mail boxes to a new server. I have been requested to set up new mail boxes (I have now done that) and when I have set up the new mail boxes, I'm to send an email and they will transfer the navgap.com 'pointers' to the new server and mail boxes.

Robb (the person looking after the navgap.com mail boxes) is a VGAP player and knows how important it is for players to not miss turns. He said he will not enable any changes until I'm ready.

I've sent him an email, but I fear that as it is now New Year's eve on his part of the world, he will not see the email until the 2nd of Jan his time. :-(

As all NAVGAP games are set to only host when all TRN files are submitted, no player will miss their turn.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

22 Dec 2002 22:30 GMT to 23 Dec 2002 05:45 GMT
Failure: ISP error
Upload of web pages to web site could not be done as FTP program reported 'incorrect password' every time an upload was attempted.

As failure first happened at 08:30 local time and I did not get home from work until 21:30 local time, it was too late to talk to my ISP's WebMaster to find out what is going wrong. I spoke to my ISP's TechSupport person and thye said it would be looked at in the morning of the next day. Unfortunately, I had to be at work the next day so I had to continue to leave NAVGAP operating without web site uploads until I got home at 16:30 that day. Outgoing emials were set to explain no web site updates were able to be done.

When I got home, there were no emails from my ISP (WebMaster had the day off), so I told NAVGAP to upload pages to web... it worked, so NAVGAP was set to normal operation.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

16 Dec 2002 10:30 GMT to 16 Dec 2002 20:30 GMT
Failure: Human error
Around 21:30 local time, the NAVGAP modem disconnected from my ISP. It did not re-dial to connect as the 'redial' check box was not ticked. :-(

When I was forced to replace my old modem, I did not see that I had missed setting re-dial on disconnect. From 4th Nov 2002 to now, the line did not drop out, so I did not get to see there was an error. Problem fixed.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

03 Nov 2002 23:30 GMT to 04 Nov 2002 05:50 GMT
Failure: Software error
Around 10:30 local time, an electrical storm hit the area. Whilst there is no evidence of power supply interruption, for some reason NAVGAP's modem connection went silly (the modem was connected to my ISP, but it or my PC could not get a reply from the email server for sending email or getting email).

I reset the modem, but it then seemed to not reset correctly - not all data line LEDs came on and it could not connect with my ISP. I decided it was time to change the old modem (a 28k model) for my newer 56k modem. Seemed to be an easy idea, but the new modem did not auto install with W95 and after sorting out the correct drivers, I then had to a re-config of the NAVGAP PC internet connection software (my gateway and firewall).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

26 Oct 2002 14:47 GMT to 27 Oct 2002 05:20 GMT
Failure: Software error
NAVGAP PC stopped working whilst pushing email from the NAVGAP VB6 program to Pegusas Mail program (unable to determine actual error as PC operation became unusable preventing display of error messages - I know there was one message saying system resources low, explorer not responding, NAVGAP not responding). Also PC clock stopped at 0200 local time.

Problem corrected when I got looked at the PC after having some sleep (I was night shift).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

18 Sept 2002 05:18 GMT to 22 Sept 2002 21:40
Failure: Human Error
On Sept 18 an electrical storm caused a power failure. My son rerstarted the PC and the programs required to operate NAVGAP (Trumpet internet connection, Pegasus Mail, and VB6 NAVGAP software).
Unfortunately, he did not notice that Pegasus was not set to the correct identity, so it did not poll for email. :-(

Problem corrected when I got home from airport.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

29 Aug 2002 08:35 GMT to 29 Aug 2002 22:25 GMT
Failure: Error in SB+
Game 8 had started to host and had got to the second run of Starbase+ when an error message stopped the hosting.
The error message was "overflow in line number in module Starbase at address 5A4A:5834".
That game is now paused until I can find out what causes that error.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

26 Aug 2002 14:25 GMT to 26 Aug 2002 19:55 GMT
Failure: ISP fault?
Email system stopped working (PMail reported error when trying to send email, all email activity stopped).
NAVGAP continued to update web site, thus proving Internet access was not blocked, however at 14:35 GMT NAVGAP reported it was not able to upload to web site.
I'm assuming there was an ISP related outage that caused Pmail to get an error (that requires operator to reset)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

27 Jun 2002 18:05 GMT to 27 Jun 2002 22:25 GMT
Failure: Power Failure
Power Supply to house failed (during storms)

Reason for this error is not known. :-(

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

8 May 2002 20:10 GMT to 8 May 2002 22:20 GMT
Failure: Unknown Error
NAVGAP unable to access Internet
Modem timed out after attempting 10 times to connect to ISP (line disconnected for unknown reason)
Manually re-initiated connection after I got up from sleeping (08:20am local time)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

4 May 2002 16:12 GMT to 4 May 2002 23:10 GMT
Failure: Unknown Error
NAVGAP program code stopped due to an 'out of memory' error.
Reason for this error is not known. :-(

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

27 Apr 2002 16:26 GMT to 27 Apr 2002 22:42 GMT
Failure: Human Error
NAVGAP program stopped 'on error'.
NAVGAP program code stopped running due to the operator leaving a stop request in the section of code that operates the NAVGAP 'msg' command.
Stop command was not removed after testing operation of new program code.
Both this error and the previous night's error were cause by human error, in that I did not fully check all program alterations had been fully de-bugged for errors. :-(

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

26 Apr 2002 13:09 GMT to 26 Apr 2002 21:16 GMT
Failure: Human Error
NAVGAP program stopped 'on error'.
NAVGAP program code stopped running due to a 'variable' error in the section of code that operates the NAVGAP 'racename' command.
The error was a 'type mis-match' in a section of code that logs activity.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Manually re-initiated connection after I got home from work (8pm local time)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

12 Mar 2002 22:31 GMT to 13 Mar 2002 07:10 GMT
Failure: ISP failure
NAVGAP unable to access email.
At 12 Mar 2002 22:31 GMT, NAVGAP was forced offline (ISP blocked Internet access) as ISP said my local PC has been used as an 'open relay' to send hundreds of spam emails.

After I insisted that my set up has a secure firewall and does not have a SMTP server (nor any Microsoft email system running), and they tested that I'm not an open relay, they found out it was not me who was an open relay... it was someone else (they assumed that because I has been connected to them for over 128 hours and uploaded 73Mb of data, I must be the open relay). My Internet connection was suspended for 4 hours.

NAVGAP was restored to operation, but in my haste to get out to a meeting at work (I was already 30 minutes late) I did not set Pmail to normal operation, so NAVGAP was only able to send email... it could not see new email arriving.... Stupid Human operator mistake. :-(

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

15 Feb 2002 14:35 GMT to 15 Feb 2002 20:40 GMT
Failure: Modem failure?
NAVGAP modem appears to have lost it's mind (all lights on but no activitiy).

11 Feb 2002 14:43 GMT to 11 Feb 2002 18:40 GMT
Failure: Power failure
NAVGAP computer lost power at 01:43 (am) local time.
Computer restarted but then sat there doing nothing. :-(

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

20 Dec 2001 22:52 GMT to 21 Dec 2001 07:55 GMT
Failure: Computer software failure
NAVGAP program not responding, stopping W95 from operating.
Reason for failure unknown - never happened before, suspect W95 may have ran low on resourses as possible reason.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1 Dec 2001 13:00 GMT to 1 Dec 2001 20:45 GMT
Failure: Computer software failure
NAVGAP program stalled.
NAVGAP logging routine uses a timer to insert 0.5 sec delay in logging of events. This timer reset at midnight local time and this put that delay in an endless loop. (this part of the program has never failed and has been in operation for over 12 months - program code now altered to prevent it happening again)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

18 Nov 2001 15:10 GMT to 10 Nov 2001 20:50 GMT
Failure: ISP connection failure
NAVGAP cut off from the Internet (Unable to connect to ISP).
NAVGAP logs show that the modem made 10 attempts to reconnect with my ISP, but each attempt failed. (The dial program is set to only try 10 times).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

10 Nov 2001 14:30 GMT to 10 Nov 2001 21:00 GMT
Failure: NAVGAP program error (human error)
NAVGAP was altered to understand filenames that contain ISO-8859-1 code. Unfortunately, this meant an alteration was made to the section of NAVGAP that extracts attachments from email. The alteration was not as stable as it should have been and a logic error allowed the program to try and create a file that has illegal characters in the name ""=?iso-8859-1?Q?4071=5Fplayer1=2Etrn?=".

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1 Nov 2001 21:02 GMT to 2 Nov 2001 04:11 GMT
Failure: Human error
NAVGAP unable to get response from email system. (Stupid human operator left email program on wrong setting, thus blocked all email transfer - my only defense is that I had just got home from night shift, it was 8 am local time, and I should have immediately gone to bed, but I decided to answer some email and then go to bed.)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1 Nov 2001 06:00 GMT to 1 Nov 2001 07:00 GMT
Failure: PC software design (Windows?)

Failure: ISP email send delays
NAVGAPlite detected a 4 hour delay in email being sent by ISP mail Server.
ISP contacted at 24 Jun 2001 00:30 GMT to find out why email is not being delivered normally. The reason is that the mail server is dealing with a back-log of emails, due to it being 'spamed' yesterday.
No games will be automatically hosted until email system returned to normal.
At 24 Jun 2001 05:35 GMT ISP stopped accepting any email. No game hosting was allowed to happen.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

From 22 June 2001 22:55 GMT to 23 Jun 2001 02:40 GMT
Failure: ISP email send delays
NAVGAPlite did not detect email being sent by ISP.

Failure: Program code Error
NAVGAPlite host program stopped due to program error ("Invalid use of Null") when attempting to host game 49 for first turn (I left out the host version number).
Program error manually corrected. (locked up at 22:50 local time, whilst I was at work for Night Shift). :-(

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

NAVGAPlite lost Internet access.
Modem was connected to ISP, but no activity could be done - could not send nor get email, no FTP response.
Disconnected and attempted to reconnect, but failed. Eventually decided to try the ISP's other modem rack dial in number (NAVGAPlite normally uses the 33k3 rack). Got a connection (reported fault to ISP).

Phone line disconnected for unknown reason. 10 attempts made to connect to ISP, but each one failed. Program then halted. (this is to protect human host from being sent broke as each phone call costs 18 cents)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

28 December 2000 15:00 GMT to 28 December 2000 21:30 GMT
Failure: Email system failure
NAVGAPlite email program caused a fault that crashed that program. NAVGAPlite was writing to that program at that time and also locked up.
Program manually shutdown and re-started.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

7 Dec 2000 02:15 GMT to 7 Dec 2000 21:30 GMT
Failure: Email system failure
NAVGAPlite impacted by some sort of Internet slowdown. Return of sent out "pre-game host email check" taking more than 2 hours to be returned to NAVGAPlite. As NAVGAPlite must have "check" email returned within 15 minutes, automatic hosting of games cannot function. Failure: Electric Power to house failure
NAVGAPlite forced offline due to the power supply to the house being turned off by an electrician working on the house switchboard. (The Hot Water Service failed on Monday and a new unit was installed on Tuesday, but the wiring needed to be upgraded).
The Sparkie did not tell me he was going to do the job whilst I was at Work, so I could not take any precautions. Fortunately, NAVGAPlite was idle at the time of the failure (it just finished hosting a game 4 minutes before the crash).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

26 September 2000 22:40 to 27 September 2000 11:00 GMT
Failure: ISP network connection failure
Problem with dial in connection to my "24 hour ISP" started at about 18:00 26 Sep 2000 GMT. At 26 September 2000 22:40 GMT I found out my ISP cancelled my access as they thought I did not want to continue with them. Unfortuantely, the loss of connection then caused a problem with my automated re-dial up program (FireSock). I dealt with getting my ISP account restored to normal but then found that my email program would get email but not send email and NAVGAPlite code not FTP upload.
At 26 September 2000 23:55 GMT I was about to fix that problem when my work phoned and I had to go in to take over from another Shift Manager who was ill.
Being required to stay until end of shift, it increased the outage of normal NAVGAPlite activity. :-(

Failure: ISP network connection failure
ISP has a fault preventing me making a connection to their modems. :-( NAVGAPlite will not be hosting, as it cannot get its email. I've been called in to work and will not be back home for another 13 hours. :-( Sorry for the "outage".

12 Jul 2000 10:00 GMT to 17 Jul 2000 01:00 GMT
Failure: NAVGAPlite PC Hard Drive Failure
On Wed 12 Jul 2000 at approx 0500 GMT, NAVGAPlite PC Hard Drive disk failed !
Windows trashed, no Network access or primary modem running, making the PC mostly useless.
New Hard Drive purchased ($170) and being installed. Installation of software not yet done. :-(
No data appears to have been lost (backup disk drive OK)
This notice is posted by back up PC and modem
I'm sorry but it is now past Midnight my time and I've got to get some sleep.

UPDATE - 14 July 2000 09:00 GMT

All the back up plans I made have not helped, as I didn't count on getting the new Hard Drive fitted and seen by the PC as being a big deal (1 day later, I've found the secret - There is no way to get a Compaq PC to fdisk a disk that is larger than about 2 Mb - BIOS sees the disk but that is about it... solution waste 6 hours trying and then put new HD in better PC, fdisk HD and make in to smaller 2Mb drives, fit HD in to Compaq, take HD out as Compaq refuses to Format drive, refit to better PC format drive (FAT16) and refit to Compaq).

Install Windows software, restart PC, no modem nor network working... spend 4 hours to get modem working (DL new drivers not made for this country and hope for best). Modem works.

Try everthing to get Windows to see network... 5 hours later, Windows goes slower and slower and slower then stops.

Reloading from scratch.....:-(

UPDATE - 16 July 2000 10:10 GMT

Well, here I am, sitting here again watching another format and reload on the NAVGAPlite PC.

I'm getting very very concerned at the amount of time it is taking me to get the PC running.... And to make it worse, my leave from work is finished and I had to actually leave the house and go to work (two 12 hour day shifts - so far).

I find time to read and relpy in the NewsGroup whilst Windows is yet again being installed on the Hard drive
(I'm up to the 15th time trying all sorts of combinations of set up).

I've tried Compaq's Windows 95 (Quick Restore), Win95b, Win98a and Win98b but no matter what version, each one wants to take 5 minutes to load (I think it hangs when loading windows drivers, as it gets past loading the msmouse.vxd file).

I'm trying to find out what is causing the problem, before I restore the back up data, as the last thing I want to do is run NAVGAPlite on a PC that has a fault (even though once Windows is running, everything works (Modem, Network).

I've even loaded up Win98 and used the "msconfig" program to pull out each individual driver and reboot each time to see where the problem is... 28 hours later, I'm no closer to finding the offending bit. :-(

I know the real solution.... through out the crap Compaq and get a real PC to run NAVGAPlite on. My Wife would go through the roof if I spend more money on "my waste of time hobby", so that is not yet a realistic option - until I do a bit of OverTime :-).

I feel really sorry for the players, as I find this force break totally unacceptable.
I'm almost at my wits end and I'm starting to seriously consider restoring the old batch mode NAVGAPlite and running it on the back up (my workhorse) PC, just so I can get players and thier games back in touch with each other.
This is my plan, so I get a NAVGAPlite running before another 24 hours goes past. (whilst in batch mode, I will continue to fight the other PC to get NAVGAPlite back to 24 hour operation.

8 Jul 2000 13:20 GMT to 8 Jul 2000 23:50 GMT
Failure: NAVGAPlite Visual Basic program stopped
Program reported "out of stack space".
I can't work out why this error happened as there were only 4 modules running at that time.

31 June 2000 23:00 GMT
Failure: email sent to my ISPs mail server
I'm still getting email bouncing back to me with a notice saying no DNS record. I've again told my ISP about their problem and I guess like many things it will take them time to find out what is going wrong.

NAVGAPlite will be reverting to "batch mode operation", whilst I use my other ISP to send out email.

No game will be allowed to host, until I'm certain the players are getting their rst files!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

30 Jun 2000 07:00 GMT
Failure: email sent to my ISPs mail server
I've complained to my ISP about email to certain domains bouncing back at me with a message saying "no DNS entry, epsecially after I just spent 30 minutes manaully resending 25 bounced emails and they all came back.
If you use one of the following, it is highly likely your email is not being delivered to you.
- @home.com
- @pobox.com
- @compuserve.com
- @mindspring.com
- @hotmail.com
- @cs.com I'm considering logging off that ISP and use my very expensive back up ISP ($5/hr) to atleast send out email. :-(

Update (30 June 2000 09:10 GMT)
My primary (24 hour) ISP appears to have solved the DNS email lookup problem, but has not yet told me what was the problem... I'm now resending the email that bounced back to me.
I'm really sorry for this.... and here I am trying to prove NAVGAPlite is a reliable good host and this type of thing happens... I've almost got a full head of grey hair... now I'm pulling it out! :-(

Failure: email to @gmx server
Email to the @gmx. addresses was blocked by the 'gmx' server!
I don't know why it happened as gmx.de haven't replied to my emails.

10 Jun 2000 13:00 to 11 Jun 2000 01:20 GMT
Failure: NAVGAPlite program & email system
NAVGAPlite stopped and no email collected.
Some sort of fault occurred that stopped Visual Basic and also around the same time, email collection from navgap@navgap.com seemed to cease (I can't tell the exact time) Fault cleared after shutting down Visual Basic and Pegasus Mail.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

09 Jun 2000 12:58 to 10 Jun 2000 00:04 GMT
Failure: NAVGAPlite program
NAVGAPlite stopped.
Absolute stupidity by the operator. I left a test email in the working directory and when NAVGAPlite processed more email it saw that after doing the new email there was still an email sitting there and it decided to inform me via a pop-up message box. The problem is that I must manually accept the message, before the program will continue running. (Being asleep, meant I didn't see it) :-( Fault cleared.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

01 Jun 2000 13:00 to 01 Jun 2000 00:00 GMT
Failure: email system
NAVGAPlite did not collect email.
navgap.com stopped from being sent to Steve Simms PC, but I didn't know it had occurred (email arrived at 22:50 my time - I was in bed asleep). Email for navgap.com now stays at Cape-Fear.com ISP server.
Fault cleared as I now poll to the new location for email.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

01 Jun 2000 06:05 to 01 Jun 2000 09:30 GMT
Failure: complete system
NAVGAPlite shutdown due to sudden power failure.
I don't own any back up power source, so system restart delayed whilst checking for any impacted files. No files upset and no data lost.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

24 May 2000 09:05 to 24 May 2000 21:45 GMT
Failure: Email system
NAVGAPlite did not collect or send email.
Cause of fault traced to Pegasus Mail (RunTime error 203 and 216). Fault cleared by restarting Pegasus Mail.
I've sent a question to the PMail group asking what is wrong.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

19 May 2000 07:50 to 19 May 2000 22:45 GMT

31 March 2000 07:10 GMT
Failure: Email system
I appear to have a serious problem with collecting email from Steve Simms PC (it is where I get all email that is addressed to navgap@navgap.com). The problem is that the request, from my PC to his PC, to collect email is timing out (I've got my timeout increased to 900 seconds).
In line with NAVGAPlite policy, I'm not letting NAVGAPlite host any games, unless it has recently got any email that is sent to it, or that game has already got all its trns submitted.
I've asked Steve to examine if it is a problem at his end. (I have the same problem using either of the 2 ISPs I have an account with).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

21 March 2000 22:30 GMT
Failure: Email system
I've traced the problem to my email program not acting on the filter rule that saves new email to disk in a directory where NAVGAPlite looks for its email. (the really annoying thing is that I've not touched that part of Pegasus for about 4 months, so why it should now stop working is a worry, and something I've got to spend time sorting out why and fixing it). No emails have been lost.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

21 March 2000 21:30 GMT
Failure: Email system
For some reason, I've not been able to see (and therefore collect) any email at the navgap.com domain, for the last 7 hours :-(.
I've sent Steve Simms an email asking him to see what is not happening, as email for NAVGAPlite sits on his PC, waiting for me to collect it.
I will not allow any games to host, until I have received email from the navgap@navgap.com address.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

7 March 2000 09:40 GMT
Failure: Email system
Email flowing freely, but I have no idea why my ISP had a fault. :-(
